This guide shows how to create your FTP/SFTP cloud storage, connect using your preferred client and start transferring files.
ftpGrid supports FTP, SFTP and FTPS out of the box. No configuration or server setup required. Connect and start uploading immediately.
Works with standard FTP clients, scripts and integrations. Use it for backups, file transfers, media storage or automated uploads.
Step by step
Create your ftpGrid.com account
Start by creating your ftpGrid account using our signup page. Your FTP storage is ready immediately after signup — no setup, no configuration and no infrastructure to manage.
Complete the onboarding setup
Complete the short onboarding setup to configure your FTP storage.
You will be guided through the essentials — creating your first FTP account, understanding storage access and getting ready to connect.
(Optional) Use SSH key authentication
For secure, passwordless access, you can use SSH key authentication with SFTP.
To generate a new key on Linux or macOS, run:
ssh-keygen -t ed25519 -C "your_email@example.com"
We recommend using ed25519 for modern, secure authentication — fully supported by ftpGrid.
Create your FTP access
Your FTP storage is ready — now create your FTP access to start connecting.
You can create FTP access in two ways:

Auto generate access
Instantly create secure credentials with recommended settings. -
Manual setup
Configure username, permissions and directory access (chroot) for full control.
Test your FTP connection
Now verify that your FTP access works by connecting from your preferred client.
You can either test using the command line or a graphical client like FileZilla.
Option 1: Test using CLI (Linux/macOS)
Find your assigned server (e.g. edgeN.ftpgrid.com) in the top section of your dashboard, then run:
sftp -i ed25519 S81.connectiontest@edgeN.ftpgrid.com

If the connection succeeds, you are ready to start uploading files.
