Free FTP hosting — start small, scale when ready

Need a free FTP server for testing, development or a small file transfer? ftpGrid includes a free FTP hosting plan that lets you try the platform before committing to a paid subscription.

You get a real hosted FTP account, 100 MB storage, file sharing, web hosting and audit logging — with no infrastructure to install or maintain.

The free plan has intentionally reduced capacity and limits, making it ideal for testing ftpGrid and validating your integrations before upgrading.

Everything you need to know

Is ftpGrid really free?

Yes. ftpGrid includes a free FTP hosting plan with no requirement to run your own server. You can create an account, configure FTP access and start transferring files immediately.

The free plan is deliberately smaller than our paid plans. It is designed primarily for evaluation, development and light usage rather than production workloads requiring large storage capacity, high transfer volumes or frequent API requests.

A free FTP server without running a server

Traditional free FTP setups often mean installing FTP software on a virtual machine, configuring users, opening firewall ports, managing storage and keeping the operating system patched.

With ftpGrid, the FTP infrastructure is already running. You simply create your account and connect using standard FTP software or an existing integration. Hosting, infrastructure and maintenance are handled by ftpGrid.

Ideal for testing before moving to production

The free plan is particularly useful when you want to verify that ftpGrid works with your existing environment. You can test authentication, upload and download files, connect applications and validate your workflow before deciding whether you need a larger plan.

That makes it useful for proof-of-concepts, software development, integration testing and migrations from an existing FTP server.

What are the limitations of free FTP hosting?

The free plan is not intended to replace a production FTP environment with significant traffic. Storage is limited to 100 MB, bandwidth to 1 GB and the plan includes a single FTP account. Some operations are also limited to one request per minute.

If your workload grows beyond those limits, you can upgrade to a paid ftpGrid plan with more storage, bandwidth, accounts and capacity without rebuilding your integration or migrating to another platform.

Free does not mean your data pays the bill

ftpGrid does not fund the free plan by analyzing, mining or selling information about your files. Your data remains your data.

The free plan exists so you can evaluate ftpGrid and start small. If ftpGrid becomes useful for a larger or production workload, you can upgrade when you actually need the additional capacity.
