Designing a reliable and scalable storage layer isn't just about spinning up a server and enabling FTP. Data at rest encryption (AES-256) and encryption in transit (TLS 1.3) are essential as baseline security measures.
Scalability and Monitoring: Anticipate Growth
It's easy to overlook scalability considerations during the initial design phase. What happens when your user base grows significantly? Simply adding more storage won't suffice if your architecture isn’s ready. Bandwidth limitations, particularly when delivering large files, can choke performance. Historical storage usage data helps predict future capacity needs. A reactive approach to these issues, rather than a proactive one, leads to frustrating outages and performance degradation.
