FTP Server for Reolink Cameras Tutorial

Published {$created} by Viggo

Reolink cameras are popular for home security, but their cloud storage can be expensive or unreliable. Setting up an FTP server gives you more control and security. In this tutorial, we'll use ftpGrid to create a secure FTP server for your Reolink camera footage.

Reolink cameras often use cloud storage, but an FTP server offers a cost-effective alternative. With ftpGrid, you get:

  • Secure transfers with FTPS or SFTP
  • Unlimited accounts for multiple cameras
  • Free tier with 512MB storage

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Create an FTP account on ftpgrid.com using the free tier.
  2. Configure your Reolink camera:
    • Go to camera settings and enable FTP backup
    • Use the hostname edgeN.ftpgrid.com (replace N with your server number)
    • Choose FTPS for encrypted transfers
  3. Set up credentials:
    • Use SFTP with SSH-ED25519 keys for maximum security
    • Or use password-based authentication (not recommended)

Secure File Transfers

For Reolink users, we recommend:

  • FTPS (FTP over SSL) for compatibility with older devices
  • SFTP for maximum security with no port changes needed

Both protocols are supported by ftpGrid and work with Reolink cameras.

Advanced Options

For advanced users, ftpGrid supports:

  • API access for automation
  • External backups to services like Dropbox
  • CDN for fast file sharing

ftpgrid.com offers detailed guides on backing up Reolink cameras using FTPS.
