FTP - File Transfer Protocol

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a widely supported and time-tested standard for transferring files between computers over a TCP/IP network. Originally developed in the 1970s, FTP remains a reliable solution for automated uploads, website content management, and bulk file transfers.

SFTP - Secure File Transfer Protocol

SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) is a secure network protocol used to access, transfer, and manage files over an encrypted SSH connection. FTPS – File Transfer Protocol Secure

FTPS (File Transfer Protocol Secure) adds a layer of encryption to standard FTP by using SSL/TLS. Supported SSH key formats

ftpGrid fully supports authentication via SSH keys as an alternative to traditional passwords. In fact, we highly recommend using SSH keys for all connections, as they provide a significantly more secure and reliable method of login. SSH key-based authentication not only helps protect your account from brute-force attacks, but also simplifies automated access and integration. By replacing passwords with a secure cryptographic key pair, you can ensure safer access to your FTP/SFTP environment. If you haven’t already set up SSH keys, we encourage you to do so — it’s a simple step that greatly improves security.

SSH-RSA

SSH-RSA is a widely used public key algorithm for authenticating users over SSH. It works by using a secure cryptographic key pair—your private key stays on your device, while the public key is stored on the server. This method offers a safer and more reliable alternative to traditional passwords.

ECDSA-SHA2-NISTP256

ECDSA-SHA2-NISTP256 is an elliptic curve-based SSH key algorithm that offers strong security with smaller key sizes. It provides faster performance and lower resource usage compared to traditional RSA, making it a modern choice for secure authentication.

SSH-ED25519

SSH-ED25519 is a high-speed, high-security public key algorithm based on modern elliptic curve cryptography. It’s designed to be both faster and safer than older algorithms like RSA, and is widely recommended for new SSH key setups.
